Dave Agnew: Dave Agnew has added another year of personal growth, new friends, experiences and a Coach Level 3 surf training class for 2005. In addition, he was part to the Gold Medal division 2 team that
participated in the Canadian Canoe Polo Championships in Edmonton, Alberta this past July. Dave is an active kayak coach and player for eight years and counting. He holds a British Canoe Union 4-Star Sea, 4-Star Surf, Coach Level 3T Sea and a Coach Level 3 Surf rating. "The greatest joy of kayaking is sharing it with others". Dave is looking forward to 2006 and the opportunities to share playing and coaching on the water.

Carol Asplund: Carol began kayaking on a rainy day on Lake Union in Seattle and has not looked back. Having taught alpine skiing for many years, it seemed natural to continue her coaching career in kayaking. She is certified as an ACA Coastal Kayak Instructor and BCU Coach and has taught for local clubs and shops in Seattle. She enjoys kayaking in still waters as well as those that are in joyful disarray.

Ken Campbell: Ken is a sea kayak guide and instructor. In addition to authoring several books on Pacific Northwest kayaking, he is a long-time presenter at sea kayak symposia and clinics throughout the region. A former board member of the Washington Water Trails Association, he makes his home in Tacoma, where he owns and operates Azimuth Expeditions, an organization that provides paddle sports instruction throughout North America.

Kathleen Grimbly: Kathleen Kathleen Grimbly founded Blue Moon Explorations in 1988. She started doing Yoga With Lilias as a teenager, which led to Kripalu yoga teacher certification in 1995, and yoga therapy training at Rocky Mountain Institute for Yoga & Auyurveda. Yoga therapy has brought her back to paddling from four automobile whiplash injuries, and she’s devoted to helping paddlers remain active and pain free. She’s guided and outfitted yoga and paddling in Alaska, BC, Baja, Hawaii and her home state of Washington, taught yoga, x-c skiing and kayaking at Skagit Valley College, and works as a yoga therapist with people in chronic pain.

Wayne Horodowich: is an experienced paddler, educator and adventurer. He directed the Adventure Programs at the University of California at Santa Barbara for twenty-five years and was their head kayak instructor. Wayne has filmed and produced the popular USK “In Depth” Instructional video series specifically for sea kayaking. He is very active in teaching instructor development clinics around North America and was a former captain of the U.S. Surf Kayak Team. He is the founder of the University of Sea Kayaking, an organization for the promotion of sea kayaking education, which hosts an incredible web site (www.useakayak.org) providing an educational resource to sea kayakers.

Jory Kahn: Jory has been paddling for 10 years now but things really took off when he got into surf kayaking. He is a local guide and instructor at Olympic Raft and Kayak, and is currently training to be a Feldenkrais Practitioner. Jory believes that progress is achieved along the path of discovery and it takes place when the student is active and involved in his or her own learning process.

Mike Kennedy: Mike has been on or in the water most of his natural life: swimming, sailing and kayaking. Many years of instruction and coaching in both alpine skiing and kayaking have taught him patience and understanding in skill development. He is certified in both the American and British systems, and when not instructing for one of the local clubs or shops in Seattle, Mike can be found somewhere on the open coast of Washington or British Columbia.

Sarah Krueger: Sarah is Washington Water Trails Association’s Outreach Director. Sarah received the highest level of Leave No Trace training during a five-day Master Educator course in June 2006. She co-facilitates WWTA's weekend Leave No Trace Trainer workshops and helps coordinate the Sound Education and Action (SEA) Kayaker program which reaches hundreds of people on Puget Sound shorelines with the Leave No Trace message each summer.

Chris Mitchell: Chris is owner of Second Wind Sports, a Bellingham based kayak school. He has been teaching kayaking formally since taking a Sea Kayak Instructor training course through the Sea Kayak Association of British Columbia in 1995. He was the director of Sea Kayak Instruction at Eddyline Water Sports Center in Anacortes in 1996-1997. In 1997 he was certified as a Coastal Kayak Instructor with the American Canoe Association and more recently an Advanced Coastal Kayak Instructor and Instructor Trainer Educator. He was the trips co-coordinator for the Whatcom Association of Kayak Enthusiasts(WAKE) in 1999-2000. Since 1996 he has been an on-water instructor and lecturer at the Coast Kayak Symposium on Thetis Island in British Columbia. From 2000 though 2004 he was the Executive Director of the Trade Association of Paddlesports and producer of the West Coast Sea Kayak Symposium in Port Townsend, WA. He currently owns and operates Secondwind Sports, a kayaking school in Bellingham and Long Beach, WA.

John Palmer: John is a local paddler who spends every moment either paddling or dreaming about paddling. He's an accomplished kayak surfer, certified sea kayak instructor and teaches at Olympic Raft & Kayak.

Kathy Ruud: Kathy’s passion is kayaking. She took her first class looking to find an outdoor activity to share with her son and was quickly captivated with this healthy sport. Teaching in other aspects of her life and ACA instructor training has made the move to being able to share her joy in kayaking fun and natural. Everyone can be successful at this playful sport. There isn’t much more wonderful that the smile you find when you empower someone to succeed in accomplishing a new technique or stroke. Kathy lives in Port Angeles and teaches kayaking through Olympic Raft & Kayak.

Rhonda G. Schwab: Rhonda has been kayaking since 1997 and is certified as a BCU Coach Level 2. Other interests have been backpacking and technical rock climbing but now she spends almost every weekend on the waters of Puget Sound. During the summer she will lead trips to places like Nootka or Desolation Sound, BC. Rhonda enjoys paddling in the San Juans and on the coast of Washington, however, her favorite playground is Deception Pass, where she can get a ride on the currents that flow at speeds of 4 to 8 knots. She's actively involved with the Mountaineers Sea Kayaking Group and Washington Kayak Club. Rhonda teaches sea kayaking classes and chaired for both groups since she started her kayaking experience. When not on the water you'll find her at home in her garage repairing kayaks or taking care of her two, one year old Shiz Tzu's (Ebby and Rip Tide)

Deb Volturno: Deb has been an ocean kayaker for nearly 30 years, been teaching kayaking for 20, and is a Level 5 Instructor Trainer Educator for the American Canoe Association. As the only female member of the extreme ocean kayaking group, the Tsunami Rangers, she holds a senior ranking of Commander. As a Ranger, she was invited to participate in a New Zealand sea kayaking symposium last year, where she had the luxury of paddling 'Down Under' and offering kayaking clinics. Deb is an avid surf kayaker, and twice was a member of the US Surf Kayak Team. Her passion gets her on the water an average of 4 or 5 times a week, which she says is training for her coastal expeditions like rounding the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska, paddling the West coast of Vancouver Island, and exploring other coastal areas of Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, and Baja, Mexico. When not on the water, Deb is focused on her other passion, teaching high school science and math. Deb also teaches kayaking for Olympic Raft & Kayak.
