Hollywood Beach and the Red Lion Hotel
ADMISSION to the beach is free although we will ask for a $5 donation OR non-perishable food items for the local food bank.
KEYNOTE SPEAKERS Both Friday and Saturday evening we'll have guest speakers:
Friday Night - A SEA KAYAKERS GUIDE TO THE SAN JUANS: (Ken Campbell) Washington's San Juan Islands are well known as a sea kayaker's paradise. The rugged coastlines, the jewel-like islands set in beautiful azure waters and the rich variety of wildlife attract paddlers from around the world. This slide presentation showcases some of the best places to visit as well as provides information about the details that will make your stay in the islands more enjoyable.
Saturday Night - EXPLORING GLACIER BAY: (Gary Luhm) When Captain George Vancouver sailed into SE Alaska’s Icy Strait in 1794, it was choked with ice. To the north was a ten-mile wide wall of 400 ft high ice – the entrance to Glacier Bay. By the time John Muir arrived in 1879, the glaciers had retreated 48 miles. Plant secession, sea mammals, birds and bears followed the retreating ice to create an exquisite laboratory – and a dream kayak destination. Photographer Gary Luhm visited Glacier Bay National Park in three of the last six years, including two weeks in 2007. Travelling by kayak mothership, he has paddled many of the Parks inlets and bays. Join Gary and explore Glacier Bay National Park’s impressive tidewater glaciers, plant communities and wildlife.
DEMO for free a wide variety of kayaks, whitewater kayaks, canoes and gear from some of the leading manufacturers including Necky, Eddyline, Seaward, Ocean Kayak, Redfish Kayaks, and Werner and Swift Paddles. Dress appropriately for a test drive (or five!). Life jackets and paddles will be provided. Demo hours: Friday Noon-5pm, Saturday 9am-5pm, Sunday 9am-2pm.
