Youth Programs

Rapid Runners — Whitewater and Surf Kayak
Ages 12-17
Specific Skills Focus
River safety & awareness; wet exiting an overturned kayak; maintaining a strong, balanced body position; learning edge control and boat stability; proper paddle strokes; techniques for paddling straight and turning; learning and identifying river features and hazards; swimming in whitewater; mechanics of rolling in moving water (hip snaps, T-rescues, body & paddle position); whitewater navigation; and introductory surfing techniques. The Rapid Runners program introduces young adults to kayaking through a standard river-running progression. The focus is on the basic, technical aspects of kayaking while incorporating FUN and SAFETY.  Sessions in flat water, moving water, surf, and river-running will evolve throughout the program as paddler skills and comfort levels progress. Individualized and focused attention will build athlete confidence in their ability to comfortably navigate Class II & III whitewater. All paddlers should be of good health, paddlers need competent swimming skills & the desire to learn and be on the water.
Class locations will vary depending on conditions. This includes but not limited to weather, age group, ability, surf/swell, tidal currents, & river conditions.
Sea Explorers — Sea Kayak & Surf Zone
Ages 12-17
Specific Skills Focus
Safety & awareness; wet exiting an overturned kayak; maintaining a strong, balanced body position; learning edge control and boat stability; proper paddle strokes; techniques for paddling straight and turning; learning the basics in navigation; and introductory to the surf zone (this is NOT kayak surfing, this is learning to land/launch in the surf zone).  The Sea Explorer program introduces young adults to kayaking through a standard Coastal Kayak progression. The focus is on the basic, technical aspects of kayaking while incorporating FUN and SAFETY.  Sessions in flat water, moving water, and the surf zone will evolve throughout the program as paddler skills and comfort levels progress. Individualized and focused attention will build paddlers confidence in their ability to comfortably paddle in the Salish Sea. All paddlers should be of good health, paddlers need competent swimming skills & the desire to learn and be on the water.

Junior River Guide Camp — River Rafting
Ages 12-17
3 DAYS: 8:30am – 4:30pm each day

Specific Skills Focus
River safety & awareness; Team Work, learning and identifying river features and hazards; whitewater navigation; and pure FUN!  Campers will enjoy days rafting, exploring the river environment, making new friends, and fun cooperative games. Although the camp is based at shop located on the banks of beautiful Indian Creek, campers will be rafting every day.  Junior River Guide Camp is open to any child entering between the ages of 12-17. By design, our camp has mixed age groups attending concurrently, although campers will primarily be in subgroups with like aged children.  Your child’s safety and fun are our number one priority! We will educate your child about safe behavior around moving water, while showing them the time of their lives! Lead by Guide/Instructor, Morgan Colonel who has over 10+ years of river guiding experience, certified as a Swiftwater Rescue Technician Level III, ACA Level 4 Whitewater Kayak Instructor, and Wilderness First Responder. All paddlers should be of good health, paddlers need competent swimming skills & the desire to learn, have fun and be on the water.

American Canoe Association

Paddle sports are something that anybody can excel in, whether its calm flat water conditions, ocean surf or the rapids of the river! The Liquid Mountain Adventure youth summer camps are designed to get young people active in the the outdoors through rafting, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding (SUP). As we have seen paddle sports grow more and more throughout the years. This is more than just a hobby, this is an avenue for youth to get into a sport that can last a lifetime, that can be done all over the world, that has high level competitions across the nation, possibility for professional sponsorships, and it is a great way to grow as a young adult.
